2004/05/19 19:15:00 - Congress shall make no law...
...respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

But the US will fire teachers for not censoring their students' political opinions.

No. One principal, in one school, in one district, in one state; or, in other words, perhaps a hundred thousandth of the US educational establishement, has done so, and is being taken to court (and will lose) as a result. America has enough problems without being accused of things which it is manifestly innocent of.

With the apparant support of the district (or at least not opposition) and of the school's military liason. Whilst I hopeagree that this is an excessive point, it is still indicative of a Patriotism movement that does appear to be gaining significant power in the US.

I'm confused by the whole idea of a school having a 'military liason'. Is this common?

To be honest, I'm more worried that the average American is subject to journalism of the quality of that piece. Can they honestly not find anyone better to write?

Four words: House. Un-American. Activities. Committee.

Although now, of course, it's "unAmerican" rather than "Un-American"...
