In 1994 34,503,501 pound coins were issued. If you stack them in a rectangular grid (better compression could be achieved with a hexagonal grid, but I couldn't be bothered to work out the maths) then this would be approximately a cube with 4 meters on each side.

I get a packing density of 78% for packing circles in a square grid and read that the equivalent figure is a bit under 91% for circles in a hex grid.
