For eating, I reccommend "The Auld Hoose", a pub on the Pleasance. It has its own LJ, an excellent menu and a good choice of good drinks. Oh, and a fantasticly well stocked jukebox. ::smiles:: It's not the normal recommendation, I'm sure, but I always make a point to eat there when in Embra. If you're (un)lucky, you just might see Stross and co drinking there.

The only touristy things I'd suggest are climbing the Scott Monument (you get a layered view of Embra as you ascend, and the changes and view are marvellous) and visiting the Museum. Other than that ... wander into a chippy and order a [something] supper with salt and sauce. Especially the sauce. Don't let them not give you sauce just 'cos you're English. Sauce is a must.

Yes. Mostly fruit and spices, in fact. Chip sauce is usually compared to brown sauce, but it has about as much in common with brown sauce as tomato sauce does so ...
