The Elephant House are fantastic, and do nice pastries and a big selection of teas and coffees. (Also there is Elephants and Bagels which do, er, bagels, if you like that sort of thing.) There's also Chocolate Soup which does big bowls of gooey chocolate goodness, and it's on the Royal Mile too. :) As for non-breakfasty places, I like Vittoria's for Italian foods and Gandhi's for a good curry.

There's loads to see on the Royal Mile- free museums, the Castle, St. Giles' Cathedral, and the Scottish "Parliament". If you're just here for a day you'll be kept plenty busy just wandering past all the attractions there, and just off the Mile there's loads of stuff too (National Library of Scotland, the old Bank of Scotland building, the Grassmarket). If I'm still around here I'll happily be a tour guide, having lived in the Burger for 16 years now. :P

Heh, well we'll agree to differ that the Parliament resembles one in any way. ;)

Oh, Valvona and Crolla is wonderful, but you need to remortgage your home to eat dinner there. Or perhaps I'm looking at that from a skint student perspective, hehe.

The last time I went in the Castle was because it was free for St. Andrews Day; I was pleasantly surprised by the sheer volume of stuff to see, but yeah, it takes ages to go round it all! :)

Must admit I'm always disapointed by the lack of edible elephants in Elephant and Bagel.

Hee hee :)

There *are* rather tasty edible elephant shortbread biscuits in the Elephant House, mind you...
