Sometimes I wonder about this "technology" stuff.

For those of you who don't compulsively follow UK weather reports, this is almost certainly the hottest week of the year. It's definitely the hottest of the year so far.

On Monday, feeling a little warm in the office, I had a gander at the aircon thermostat. First inspection showed that it was set to 10°C, so I assumed that it was simply failing to work properly. Then something hit me in the back of the brain and I gave it a second look and saw that there were no lights on. Further inspection showed that there was no cold air issuing in Unit 52 at all.

Fortunately the aircon in Unit 51 was still working, and (effectively on full) it was just about managing to keep things a reasonable temperature across the whole office (which consists of two Units). I logged a call with maintenence and thought nothing more of it.

Tuesday morning maintenence showed up and spent about an hour with the heads in the ceiling and pronounced that there was something up with the master a/c unit in Unit 52, but that they might be able to bodge something up which would get the slave unit (which is near my desk) to think it should be cooling all the time. They then left. It got kinda hot.

Wednesday it got even more hot, no bodge was installed.

This morning I get in and the office is already actually quite hot…

…Unit 51's a/c is now not working, either.
