Retreat photos can be found here.

The photos of birds have surprised me by how well they've come out, to be honest. Can anyone identify the bird in this one? There were two of them down there (very well camouflaged), but they wouldn't both stay in shot at once!

Conceivably, could it just be a juvenile gull? I think it's the Greater Black Backed Gull that has the orangey legs like that. But I am not very good at birds.

Um, but I'm afraid I don't recognise the bird, in spite of my long history of ornithology (I had a book on it when I was about ten!).

My dad's suggestion (when I told him about the red legs) was juvenile redshank, but he's not convinced. He's sure it's juvenile from the downy top. But he's worried because waders usually nest away from the shore. I'm also worried by:

Common winter visitor and passage migrant; scarce breeder

on the site where I found the picture. Redshank had been my thought (as much from the name) at the time, but my image search this morning showed them as too light.
