1) Why do you have such a daft beard? Or, rather, since you seem to *THWAP* people who ask you that question, why is it that your beard merits a node of its own in a Wiki and a mention in a FAQ? I had to ask!
Readers from Outer Mongolia might want to note that this question refers to ToothyWiki:Senji/Beard and ToothyWiki:Senji/FAQ.
Well, as I said in my reply to lnr's questions (while explaining why the Beard) the Beard has sort of got notorious. It isn't as daft now as it was about 5 years ago. Or at least that's my story, and I'm sticking to it. Neither the Beard entry in the FAQ, nor the Senji/Beard page were actually my fault. The FAQ entry was created by emperor, but reasonably well describes reality, so I left it there (about the only people still asking that question are himself and mbm, so...). The Senji/Beard page appears to have been created by atreic (who will now disclaim this), so I guess you'd have to ask her why that page exists. To sort of round up that wittering, I guess the real answer is that the Beard has taken on a mythical existence of its own, and has it's own place in people's minds. Akin to the relationship Thor has with Mjolnir, sort of. Or something.
2) How did you come by your most treasured personal possession, whatever it is? What would its loss mean to you?
Hmm, I'm not really sure what my most treasured personal possession is. A lot of stuff has memories attached, but I think there's very little I'd miss if it was gone. A sort of predictable answer would be my wedding ring or my engagement ring, but it's not the items themselves that are treasured there - it's the relationship they symbolise. Hmm...
So, I think, at the risk of being cute, my most treasured possession is probably a small soft-toy dog, about 8" long. He was given to me by my grandparents a couple of weeks after my sister was born (at which point I was about 30 months old), and has been with me pretty much ever since.
Loss? Hmm, I'm not sure. I'd be very unhappy about it in the short term, but I don't think it would make any long-term change in my life, beyond the occasional nostalgic moment.
3) What is people's most frequent misconception about or misperception of you?
That's hard to say, because I probably don't find out what it is.... Probably that I'm indecisive. I'm not really indecisive, I just often have little in the way of a strong opinion myself, and am often inept about remembering to make decisions. If I have to make a decision on my own and can't query others for further input then I don't actually find it hard - I just always want to ensure I understand where everyone else who is party to the decision is coming from.
4) You are to commission a work of art which will be dedicated to you. From whom would you commission it, and what would it be?
I think it would have to be a work of music. Unfortunately, my knowledge of current composers of classical music is quite slim - so the first thing I would do would be to put some research in. I'd probably look for a reasonably young composer, both in order to find new ideas and expressions, and because such a commission would boost their career if done well than it would for an older composer.
5) What motivates you to trust someone?
I'm typically quite trusting in the first place. If this initial trust doesn't prove to be misplaced then I will be more trusting as time goes on. Other things, like being trusted myself, help too. More fundamentally, though, I'm more likely to trust anyone at times when I feel I need people to trust in; and most of the time it isn't really an issue.
Thanks, mhw for those questions (rather hard, some of them).
