I've just filled in the lost SMS posts from the period away.
As well as travelling on a 49 year old bus, I saw another stalwart of London's transport system at Victoria -- the slam-door train (visible in distance on photo). These are slowly being phased out "for health and safety reasons", which I think many commuters will see as a backwards step; certainly I'd rather be in a new slam-door style train than a more modern EMU.

Yes, I travel on those fairly frequently on the London-Brighton line. Speaking to the conductor one night, I was told that they are very popular with the crews since they never break down - unlike the modern ones.
