You wouldn't have liked this morning's Point of View (audio)* which basically said `though I'm a libertarian, in the current climate that's impossible so it's ok to limit movement etc'. I couldn't help feeling `the terrorists have won'

*Sorry can't see a transcript atm but last week's had one, because that was Theo's proof of being old™.

Well, the terrorists have certainly gained ground... but I think whoever was saying that was just a prat. Claiming to be libertarian is somewhat fashionable though almost nobody actually is a libertarian - what they generally mean is "I wouldn't want laws that might personally inconvenience me", which is so very nearly universal that it's hardly worth mentioning.

Me, I'm slightly on the libertarian side of the Authoritarian-Libertarian axis but with fairly large variance...

Of course, it's prats like that who Benjamin Frankin (or whoever the original author was) was talking about in the first place.

Indeed. They only make up... um... about 99% of the population.

Also: I've seen it attributed to Thomas Jefferson before, but it's clearly something that any of the Founding Fathers would approve of, even if none of them actually said it.
