2005/04/14 21:02:00 - The works of Roberta
I'm being totally inept with this, but in an attempt to catch up…

8. Heinlein, Robert A. Starship Troopers
9. Heinlein, Robert A. Farmer in the Sky
10. Heinlein, Robert A. Space Cadet
11. Heinlein, Robert A. The Moon is a Harsh Mistress
12. Heinlein, Robert A. The Past Through Tomorrow (vol 1)
13. Heinlein, Robert A. The Past Through Tomorrow (vol 2)
14. Heinlein, Robert A. I Will Fear No Evil
15. Heinlein, Robert A. Time Enough For Love
16. Heinlein, Robert A. The Number of the Beast

Whoo, I've read a lot of Heinlein recently. Comfort reading in a sense, I cut my SF teeth on some of these books. Farmer in the Sky I haven't read before (picked this copy up at Picocon 22). It's got a lot of the standard Heinlein "determination despite all unreasonable circumstance", but otherwise it's quite fun.

The two short-story collections have my favourite Heinlein works – Requiem (one of the few pieces of fiction to reliably bring a tear to my eye), The Green Hills of Earth, The Menace from Earth and Misfit.

The latter two books are definitely of "reduced quality", although both are enjoyable.

So you don't mind _IWFNE_? It was one of the first Heinlein books I read, and I quite enjoyed it back then, but I since discovered it has a bad reputation. I recently read _To Sail Beyond The Sunset_ and it pretty much blew, and now you say that _TEFL_ isn't that great either? Well, _Number of The Beast_ had its moments, anyway...

IWFNE might benefit from a bit of editing, but it's quite image-dense, and it's one of the few stories that paints any coherent picture of The Crazy Years. TEFL and TSBTS are pretty much collections of loosely linked stories. If I was editing TEFL I'd probably keep about half of it, and maybe less in the case of TSBTS.
