2004/10/10 11:26:00 - Happy Returns of the Day
According to the "Birthday Paradox", in any group of at least 23 people there is a 50% likelyhood of two people sharing the same birthday.

My first form-group at Secondary School had, IIRC, actually 23 people in it; and one pair of people who shared a birthday.

One of those people was me; the other was a young woman called Charlotte, although I can't even remember what her surname is. IIRC she eventually left the school to go to the Sixth Form College, and I didn't see her again after that.

But still, despite never having really known her, I wish her a Happy Birthday on this day.

My primary school group had, initially, twenty-four people in it, and one pair who shared a birthday.

What made this memorable was the date of the shared birthday. My academic year contains people born between 09/83 and 08/84, including, of course, 29/02/84, which was the birthdate shared.

So, thanks to Michael Fearn and Timothy Godley, I always get a slightly different answer to most people whenever I make that probability calculation....

Happy Birthday, senji, anyway.

May you and the beard grow older disgracefully.

Happy birthday.

Of course, this isn't the beard's birthday. It (she? he?) needs a separate celebration for that.

I'm not really sure when the beard's birthday is; particularly since I can't remember when my last day at school was (further aided and abetted by the fact that my last exam was after Leaver's Weekend), and I'm not sure if that; or the last day on which I shaved; is the correct way to count it.
