Quite agree. Cycling mere centimetres from certain death under the wheels of a fast moving chunk of metal is a very stupid thing indeed. I shall disdain them intensely while I cycle home through central Cambridge between the buses and taxis...

The buses and taxis generally move fast because they are exempt from both traffic laws and Newton's laws. They are either in a going-very-fast-and-using-horn or a aggressively-stopped-and-using-horn state which is optimal for
a) bowling shopping-laden old ladies up and down the bus
b) playing ping-pong with cyclists
